Can Music Really Cause Depression?

Music, which is a series of beautiful sounds, turned out to have remarkable effects for human life. A study by Pitssburgh University School of Medicine shows the relationship between pop music genre and depression attacks.

Adolescents who are depressed tend to seek the kind of music which is in tune with their mood. They make ??the song as a solace. However unwittingly, this would make teenagers more depressed and distressed.

“These are preliminary findings. We have not said that music brings bad influence, ” said study author, Dr Brain A Primack, who is also assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics at the School of Medicine, Pitssburgh University, according to Health24.

Primack said that the findings could be a marker of interest that can help identify depression, particularly in adolescents. Of course this should be linked with other variables. For example, suddenly listening to sad lyrical music all the time, or all of a sudden liking the sound of loud rhythmic music when alone.

“So, listening to music could be one activities that pulls young people from social interaction. They will continue to settle in their inner life. Maybe this is what can increase the risk of depression, “said Michael W O’Hara, professor of psychology at the University of Iowa.

In some previous studies, music therapy is actually proved to be a powerful media to fight stress. Music can even be an efficacious therapy for patients with heart disease and hypertension or high blood pressure.
